How does the 'duration' setting work?

When configuring an alert in FarmRoad you are able to select the duration over which FarmRoad checks your measurement before sending an alert.

  • FarmRoad uses the average measurement over the set duration to determine whether to send an alert.

  • Each time a measurement is received by FarmRoad, FarmRoad checks whether the condition was broken over the previous ‘duration’.

For example, an alert is configured to send an alert if the temperature of a Folium device is above 10 degrees C for 10 minutes. The system performs the following function:

  • A message is received from the Folium that reports 12 degrees C

  • FarmRoad checks all measurements in the last 10 minutes and finds the average

  • The average temperature is 11 degrees C, above the threshold for sending an alert

  • FarmRoad sends an alert to the configured recipients
